Magic Of The Alt Key

You may think why I just wrote "Magic of the alt key". You may be curious what is the magic of alt key?

But first I want to ask you some questions.

Have you ever tried to create a folder without any name or Have you ever tried to name a folder CON, AUX or NUL or Have you ever tried to put a smiley or heart or any other such symbol in the name of your folder?


I guess no you haven't tried them because you can't do this. Don't believe me try it yourself.

But here is the point where magic of the alt key starts.Just read what is written below and try to make a folder following any conditions given above now and see for yourself.

Enable the number lock. Use the number keys on the right side of the keyboard.

1. To create a folder without any name follow steps written below:

Click on rename your folder and there hold alt key and type 255 and press enter and see what happens.

2. To name a folder CON,AUX,NUL :

Click on rename your folder. Press alt key and while keep holding it type 255 and write con or any other name and hit enter and see for yourself.

3. To insert a smiley or other symbol:

alt + 1 = ☺
alt + 2 =  ☻
alt + 3 = ♥
alt + 4 = ♦
alt + 5 = ♣
alt + 6  = ♠
alt + 7 = •
alt + 8 = ◘
alt + 9 = ○ 
alt + 10 =◙
alt + 11 = ♂
alt + 12 =♀
alt + 13 = ♪
alt + 14 = ♫
alt + 15 = ☼
alt + 16 = ►
alt + 17 = ◄
alt + 18 = ↕
alt + 19 = ‼
alt + 20 = ¶

List continues but it will write numbers and after that alphabets and then mathematics symbols. I am assuming that you have grasped the knowledge which I wanted to share.

This is not magic it is the wonder of ASCII codes. ASCII means American Standard Code For Information Interchange
